At the end of Dwapara yuga, before the onset of Kal Yuga, everyone feared to face Kali Yuga. Lord Krishna was also about to leave the Earth, sages started performing Yagna seeking Lord Krishnas help to overcome all obstacles of Kal Yuga and safeguard the Earth.
Sage Valakhilya and his group started rituals at Kunjavana, a forest area near Sharavati river in Karnataka. They had to face many obstacles in performing the pooja. The sage Narada advised to take the blessing of Lord Ganesha before performing the Yagna.
The sages requested Narada to select a place on the bank of river Sharavati at Kunjavana t perform their Yagna. Narada and otehr sages created a new sacred pond called Devatirtha. Narada invited all the Gods and requested Godess Parvati to send Lord Ganesha. The sages performed the rites in the presence of Lord Ganesha and other Gods. Pleased by their devotion, Ganesha decided to remain there and help them conduct the rituals without any obstacle.
On this occassion one more lake was also created called Ganesha teertha to fetch water. The same location is now called Idagunji, where Gnesha temple was built in 4tyh or 5th Century.
Interesting fact : Apnee Cheeti (Permission letter0. If the devotee keeps a letter and it falld on the right foot it suggests a 'YES' and if its falls on the left foot, it suggests 'NO'. The devotee has to tell about his problem to the priest and the priest places places the letter. Appane Cheeti seva costs Rs. 20
